DAY 5: VINTAGE 💙 // I hope you all have enjoyed my fits this week as much as I have! I loved being challenged by the #styleoutloudmovement prompts and seeing what I could put together with the clothes in my closet.
As I reflect on my relationship with clothes, I am taken back to when I first started getting into “fashion.” I was very shy and timid growing up. I didn’t have many friends and was a loner at school. I would wear my mom’s clothes and be influenced by things my older brothers wore as well (I am the middle child, oldest daughter). When I was about 13 years old, I began hanging out with the older girls in youth group who were in their late teens, early 20s (I went to a small Hmong church). They took me under their wing. I didn’t know it then, but they showed me how to love myself through what I put on my body and really helped pave the way into finding my own voice through clothing. I never saw myself as a “fashionista” and didn’t follow trends; I didn’t even know the names of designers. I started thrifting and loved the thrill of finding gems on a dime. I started to see my body differently and felt more confident in who I was when I wore an outfit that made me feel good. At the time, my body was itching to be known, to be seen, and even though I wasn’t confident in my voice, my body decided to make herself known visually - by creating and making space for myself through shape and color.
My relationship with my body and with what I wear has transformed today as a 28 year old woman. I love color, pattern, and highlighting my figure with high waisted garments. I am excited to see how my journey will look in 10, 20 years and I hope I am continuing to do the work of loving my body through #whatchawears.
Thank you @lineagevintage and @openprofile.us for your beauty, strength, and creativity! I love and am grateful for the space y’all created this week for people to shine and exude their confidence through style. I can’t wait to see what y’all are up to next!
And that concludes the spam this week..time for hibernation. I think y’all need some space from these fire looks (I know I do 😂😂). Until next time! 😄😘💁🏻♀️
